EIB and Bpifrance join forces for a €500 million boost towards renewable energy in France and Europe
Announced on the 12th of February 2025, this joint funding effort seeks to enhance the growth of renewable energy initiatives across France and Europe.
The European Investment Bank (EIB) and Bpifrance have announced a significant €500 million financing to support renewable energy projects in France and Europe. This agreement underscores the dedication of both institutions to drive economic growth and environmental sustainability through strategic investments in green energy.
Bpifrance, the climate bank
Bpifrance, has been a pivotal player in financing renewable energy projects. With this new agreement, Bpifrance continues its mission to support the ecological transition by providing optimised financing conditions for new solar and wind projects. This initiative is part of the bank’s broader climate plan, which has already deployed €20 billion from 2020 to 2023 and aims to inject an additional €35 billion by 2029 to help SMEs and middle-sized companies tackle the challenges of the energy transition. Bpifrance has also extended its expertise in structured debt arrangements to European investors over the past 2 years positioning the bank as a key player in driving the growth of the renewable energy sector.
Initial loan for Solar and Wind Projects
In December 2024, the EIB and Bpifrance concluded an initial loan of €500 million to finance new solar and wind projects in France and Europe. This loan enables Bpifrance to continue offering optimised financing conditions, bolstering the deployment of renewable energy projects as part of its climate plan as well as EIB’s dedication to foster innovation, economic growth and environmental sustainability advancing to meet the EU’s climate objectives.
Towards a sustainable future
This new €500 million investment will support initiatives expecting to play a crucial role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and enhancing energy efficiency in France and Europe. The funding will also further facilitate the integration of advanced technologies and equipment to improve the performance of renewable energy systems, positioning France at the forefront of the global transition to sustainable energy. This joint commitment by the EIB and Bpifrance aims to drive economic growth and environmental sustainability, paving the way for a greener and more resilient future.
